Manipal is a university town in Udupi district on coastal Karnataka. It is a part of Udupi city in the southwest Indian state of Karnataka, and Udupi is about 5 km from Manipal while Mangalore is 65 km away.
Mangalore airport is roughly 60 km away by road and is an international airport with good connectivity to Mumbai and Bengaluru. The drive takes about 75–80 minutes, and pre-paid taxis are available from the airport (approximately INR 1,600).
Udupi is the nearest station, around 4 km from Manipal. It lies on the Konkan route along the west coast, with direct links to Delhi and Mumbai to the north and Ernakulam to the south.
Manipal has good road links with major cities in Karnataka, Kerala and Goa, and buses run frequently between Mangalore and Manipal. The main route is the coastal NH-66. Overnight buses also run from Bengaluru.
October to February is the best window, with pleasant weather for beaches and sightseeing. March to May is hot and humid. June to September brings heavy monsoon rain. That season is good for waterfalls and greenery, but the sea is rough and St. Mary’s Island ferries usually stop.
